Group Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention Over Alleged Cover-Up In Mohbad’s Death

A fresh development has surfaced in the ongoing investigation into the death of Nigerian hip-hop artist Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. The Break the Silence Foundation has raised serious concerns over what it describes as the suppression of key evidence and potential political interference in the case.

In an open letter dated April 11 and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Nollywood actor and human rights advocate Yomi Fabiyi, representing the foundation, claimed that the police have ignored critical video evidence since December 2024. According to Fabiyi, this includes a homicide confession and eyewitness account posted on TikTok by Mohbad’s younger brother.

The letter alleges that law enforcement authorities have acted under “orders from above” to suppress the video and shield individuals who may be implicated in Mohbad’s death.

“No public will accept a government or police institution that openly shields alleged murderers,” the letter stated, warning that the perception of injustice could spark significant public unrest.

Fabiyi also warned of the political ramifications, suggesting that the suppressed video could reemerge ahead of upcoming elections, potentially harming the image of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.

“At that point, nobody should underestimate the power of the people,” he cautioned.

Appealing directly to President Tinubu, the letter highlighted his longstanding ties to the entertainment industry, urging him to step in personally to ensure justice is served.

“If this can be done to one of us, it means it can be done to any of us,” Fabiyi emphasized, underlining the broader vulnerability faced by entertainers and the growing frustration among the public.

The letter concluded with a powerful call to action: “The youths are observing, the student union is expectant, the industry is waiting, and the world is watching.”
