Dr. Kenneth Ogbonna, the NSG Team lead for 2023, stated that Makinde emerged as the top choice after analyzing respondents, predominantly drawn from youth clusters in all six geo-political zones of the nation. The report highlighted that Makinde was selected from the final shortlist of state governors based on criteria such as performance, legacy accomplishments, accessibility, likability, acceptance in his home state, national recognition, and profile.

NSG commended Makinde for his significant accomplishments in crucial sectors including education, youth development, agriculture, healthcare, road infrastructure, urban and rural development, aviation, culture, and tourism, among others. The group, present in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, as part of their activities for the Nigeria Social Media Week Q4 2023, specifically praised Governor Makinde for key projects like the recently commissioned 34.85 km Oyo-Iseyin Road, the newly built Iseyin Campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and the ongoing construction of the 76.67 km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road, among other initiatives.

Ogbonna clarified that the Nigeria Social Media Week Group is an independent body that evaluates governance and leadership through social media, focusing on peer reviews and comparative studies of leadership performance in Nigeria.
