The Management of Gregory University, Uturu has condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of two Chinese expatriates and a Nigerian police officer in Amaya Ndundu autonomous community In Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Deputy Registrar of Communication, Sleek Ogwo, the university described the incident as “heinous” and called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
Reacting to concerns over the safety of students and staff, the university reassured the public, especially parents and guardians, that there is no cause for alarm. According to the statement, the location of the incident is significantly distant from the university’s main campus at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, which sits on a 100-hectare expanse of land.
“The security of our university community remains our top priority,” the statement read. “We continue to maintain close collaboration with relevant security agencies to safeguard the lives and property within our environment.”
The institution also called for calm and encouraged the public to support law enforcement efforts in tracking down those responsible for the attack.
“This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for vigilance and greater cooperation between communities and security operatives to avert similar occurrences in the future,” the university stated.
Gregory University extended its heartfelt condolences to the Consulate and officials of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police, officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, and the bereaved families of the victims.
