Gregory Ibe Pride Of Ndigbo, Says Prof. Mkpa

Ndigbo and Abians have been called upon to show gratitude to the Founder of Gregory University, Uturu, Professor Gregory Ibe, for choosing to establish a University in the South East rather than siting an industry.

Former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, and current Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, (ABSIEC), Chairman, Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa, made the call at the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Gregory University, Uturu during a courtesy visit.

Professor Mkpa said that Professor Ibe could have established an industry, but rather chose to build a University, “I understand that the Chancellor is not the richest Igboman, I understand he could have chosen to build an industry, I understand he could have decided to build the University elsewhere, where he can make quick money, but he brought it home. He is a man all Igbos should be proud of. He has thrown open an unlimited access to young people to have quality education. By not building an industry and chose education, he has created a solid manpower base, which happens to be the bedrock of development in any nation” he said

The ABSIEC Chairman equally challenged the staff to be diligent in their duties, stressing that whatever they do should be for the greater good of Alaigbo. “All that the Staff owe Prof Ibe, is deligence, hard-work and patriotism. This University is not just his own, but a collective venture of NDIGBO. It is the pride of Igbo land, hence everyone who has the privilege of working here should endeavour to key into his dream and make it come true. All of you have your parts to play and you must play it well. I understand the challenge of workers in a private institution, but see your being here as a call to father land Nigeria and AlaIgbo in particular” he stressed.

Elated Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Evaritus Anyaehie, while thanking Prof Mkpa for honouring the invitation to be the keynote speaker at a one day seminar, organized by College of Education, Gregory University, Uturu, on the topic: ‘Recover and Revitalize Education in COVID-19 Era’. Commended the Chancellor for establishing the institution “The Chancellor is someone who does not give in to challenges, most times when you tell him that this thing seems impossible, he’ll not listen and the way he’ll solve it will amaze you. We came here because we share in his dreams, and so we intend to make the place the best in the education sector”

Prof. Anyaehie, said the management pays premium attention to the College of Education because according to him, she is the mother of all. “Because of the love the Chancellor has for College of Education, he offers scholarships to scholars ready to study any Education course and is even prepared to cut down school fees specifically for those who are ready to study education.”

Gregory University Uturu, despite being the host for the 2021 NUTAF Festival, still found it worthy to hold this seminar to celebrate the World’s Education Day.
