The 1991 set of Government College Umuahia Abia State on Sunday held its reunion several years after graduation to reconnect with old friends once more.
The event took place at Harriet Suites Umuahia, Abia State.
The leader of the set, Mr. Okere Onwuha Ikenna told ABN TV that the set also held an award of recognition to appreciate teachers who who played a role in shaping their future.
This is the first time the set has been meeting since they left school. Ten members of the set were also presented with awards of recognition.
He listed teachers who were honoured to include, Mr. Okoro the Guidance and Counselor teacher, Mr. Udeala the Agric master, Mrs. Ibem the French mistress, Mrs. Ogbuagu the music teacher, posthumous award to late Mr. Uwaga the mathematics teacher, Mr. Uche the house master, Mr. Chigbo, Mr. Mbibi the government teacher Mr. Adibe the physical education teacher and Mr. Uwadi the vice president special duties.
Mr. Ikenna who applauded members of the set for putting together a successful reunion said another edition is coming up next year.
He also said discussion is ongoing for a possible area of intervention through corporate social responsibility in order the enhance teaching and learning in the school.
He emphasized that the set is doing so much to enhance the welfare of individual members.
An award recipient and a former teacher, Elder Mrs. Onyi Ibem expressed gratitude for the recognition, even as she thanked God that the former students have grown to become great men.
While wishing them well in their endeavours, she charged them to continue to express love to one another.
