Governor Alex Otti has reassured Abians that the internal crisis within the Labour Party has been fully resolved, declaring that the party is now stabilizing and regaining strength ahead of its upcoming activities.
Speaking during the March edition of his monthly media chat, “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the governor said the issues that previously affected the party had been conclusively settled by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with the Independent National Electoral Commission complying with the court’s decision.
According to him, the resolution of the dispute has restored confidence and direction within the party, noting that the Labour Party is already taking steps to reposition itself.
“Labour Party had a problem, but that problem has been resolved by the Supreme Court, and INEC has respected that decision. The party is now back on its feet and will be strong very soon,” Otti stated.
The governor disclosed that party registration is currently ongoing across the country, urging members and supporters who are yet to register to take advantage of the window provided.
“As we speak, registration is going on. Those who haven’t registered should do so. There is still an opportunity,” he added.
Otti further revealed that the party would soon commence its congresses, leading up to a national convention, as part of efforts to consolidate its structures nationwide.
Addressing concerns about possible defections, the governor dismissed such speculations, insisting that there was no reason for members to leave the party given the latest developments.
“In the light of this information, the issue of defection does not arise. I will also discourage anyone from defecting,” he said.
The governor’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments across the country, as parties begin early preparations for future electoral contests.
