Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has approved the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new Head Coach of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, in a decisive move to revive the club’s competitive strength and restore its status as a continental powerhouse, ABN TV reports.
The appointment, announced in a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on January 25, 2026, reflects the state government’s resolve to reposition the People’s Elephant for professionalism, sustainability, and stronger corporate governance.
Enyimba FC, Nigeria’s most decorated club and a two-time CAF Champions League winner, has for years projected Abia State’s sporting image across Africa. However, recent performances have fallen short of the club’s celebrated legacy, prompting a renewed drive by the Otti administration to rebuild and reenergize the team.
Governor Otti said the choice of Coach Deutsch Detchoua is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the club’s technical department, enhance competitiveness in domestic and continental competitions, and lay the groundwork for long-term success.
The newly appointed Head Coach is a seasoned football tactician with CAF A, B, and C coaching licenses, and has previously worked as Technical Adviser and Head Coach with notable clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon. His achievements include winning the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025, underlining his reputation for tactical discipline and player development.
Governor Otti expressed optimism that Coach Deutsch Detchoua’s experience and professional leadership will drive Enyimba FC back to the summit of Nigerian football and rekindle the club’s dominance on the African stage.
The Abia State Government has urged fans and stakeholders to support the new technical crew as Enyimba FC begins a new phase in its quest for silverware and sustained excellence.
