Governor Otti Charges Newly Appointed Officials To Prioritize Service, Duty, Excellence (Photos)

Governor Alex C. Otti, has called on newly sworn-in appointees in Abia State to embrace a culture of service, dedication, and accountability in their respective roles.

He made this call during the swearing-in ceremony of Special Advisers, members of the Abia State Drug Control Committee (SDCC), the Local Government Service Commission, and other key officials on Wednesday, December 13, 2024.

In his speech titled “Service, Duty, and Privileges,” Governor Otti emphasized the importance of selflessness in leadership, noting that genuine fulfillment comes from committing resources to the greater good of society. He reminded the appointees that progress and development are results of deliberate actions and sacrifices made by visionary leaders who prioritize the well-being of their people.

“Development is never an abstract idea,” the governor stated. “It is about decisions made by leaders which pull people away from conditions that strip them of their dignity.” He added that Abia State’s administration has been working tirelessly for the past 18 months to meet and exceed the expectations of its citizens.

Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, Governor Otti noted the importance of continuous improvement, saying, “Building greatness is never a one-stop event. Sustained greatness requires continuous evaluation and fresh ideas to strengthen systems.” He expressed confidence in the newly appointed officials, urging them to bring their expertise and commitment to bear in their new roles.

Particular attention was given to the Abia State Drug Control Committee (SDCC), which Governor Otti described as critical to the government’s social development agenda. He highlighted the committee’s role in combating drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and the associated societal harm. “We are passionate about working with all stakeholders to shield our people, especially the young ones, from the dangerous influence of drugs and related substances,” he said.

Governor Otti also emphasized the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for mediocrity and corruption, urging the appointees to embrace collaboration, humility, and ethical practices in their service. He assured them of the necessary support and resources to fulfill their mandates effectively.

Concluding his address, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a prosperous Abia State, saying, “Our goal remains what it has always been: to collectively build a state that works for Ndi Abia.”
