Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has approved the payment of N70,000 as minimum wage for Abia workers with effect from October end, ABN TV reports.
This announcement was made by Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu during a press briefing in Umuahia, highlighting Governor Otti’s empathy for workers
Kanu assured that payment will commence within days, covering all worker categories.
He said:”Payment of minimum wage will commence in the next few days. The Governor has approved that.”
This move follows Governor Otti’s promise to strengthen the administration of justice, including constructing 17 court halls across Abia’s local government areas.
Reactions to the announcement have been mixed, with some hailing the decision as a positive step for Abia workers, while others express skepticism, questioning the feasibility of implementing the new wage.
