The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Nigeria Police Force for their contributions to maintaining peace and order in the state.

Governor Otti expressed his gratitude during a visit to his Nvosi country home by the wife of the IGP and President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, alongside her delegation. The visit was part of POWA’s working tour of Abia State.

Acknowledging the robust partnership between his administration and the Nigeria Police Force, Governor Otti reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the police and other security agencies to enhance safety in the state.

“As a government, we are determined to support those who work for our peace and security. Beyond what is done at the national level, we design security strategies tailored to our state and work closely with the police and other agencies,” Governor Otti said.

He added, “By the grace of God and through the efforts of your husband, his team, and other security personnel, we have enjoyed relative peace in Abia State. We are not complacent and will continue improving to ensure our people can sleep peacefully, even if we don’t as their leaders.”

In response to POWA’s request, Governor Otti approved the allocation of land for the establishment of a Skill Acquisition Centre aimed at empowering police officers’ wives and their children. He also pledged additional support for the project, including manpower and other resources if required.

“We are committed to supporting empowerment initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. For us, true empowerment is not just giving people fish but teaching them how to fish. Your request for a Skill Acquisition Centre is approved,” the Governor affirmed.

Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, in her remarks, commended Governor Otti for his administration’s strides in road infrastructure and improving the economic welfare of Abia residents. She highlighted POWA’s mission to empower women and children, particularly families of fallen police officers, by providing skills for sustainable livelihoods.

“Our focus is on equipping families with lifelong income-generating skills. We are grateful for your support and your approval of the land for our Skill Acquisition Centre, which will greatly benefit the families of our fallen heroes,” Mrs. Egbetokun stated.

The Governor also lauded POWA’s efforts to support families of deceased police officers and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives that improve the lives of Abians.
