Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has travelled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew and internationally acclaimed music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Davido earlier confirmed that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, would hold their white wedding in Miami, Florida, in August 2025. He made the announcement during an interview on The Breakfast Club, aired on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Governor Adeleke’s trip was officially confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, following criticism from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which questioned the governor’s whereabouts.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago to attend the wedding of the global music icon and his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” the statement read.
Rasheed extended an invitation on behalf of the governor to members of the opposition to join in the celebration.
“His Excellency is inviting the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy with the Adeleke family. Those unable to attend physically can join virtually,” he added.
He also clarified that Governor Adeleke had not taken an official vacation since assuming office in November 2022, noting that this current trip would be brief.
“The governor has again chosen to make it a short visit to ensure continued attention to vital state duties,” Rasheed said, adding that Adeleke remains in regular contact with Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, who is currently overseeing government activities.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Osun APC raised concerns about the governor’s prolonged absence. In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC criticized what it described as the governor’s failure to inform the public or formally transfer authority to his deputy.
“There are murmurs across the state—in commercial buses, markets, and public spaces—about the governor’s whereabouts,” the statement read.
“We, as a party, believe it is our right and that of the people to know where the governor is and who is acting in his capacity during his extended absence. Did he formally transmit power to his deputy, as constitutionally required?”
The APC described the situation as “abnormal”, urging greater transparency from the Adeleke administration.
