Residents of Sokoto state’s Gwadabawa hamlet have been filled with fear following the outbreak of violence between Fulani and Hausa residents.
Several locals on both sides, including a security operative, were killed, and many more were injured in the brutal clash.
In an interview with VOA Hausa on Saturday, a local official, Aminu Gwadabawa, said, “People in the region were living in fear, as the violence even took the life of a soldier.”
“They are frightened about retaliatory attacks by Fulani bandits.”
“The Fulani attacked my relation with knives,” a survivor said. Yet, he possesses spiritual abilities that prevent sharp items from piercing his skin.
“As a result, they escalated their assault on him and succeeded in chopping his head off his body.”
A Fulani guy who survived the horrific communal clashes also shared his ordeal.
“I was fired at twice, but I survived,” he says. I pleaded with them not to kill me. But they fired at me.”
According to VOA Hausa, when police in Sokoto was contacted, they stated they were still waiting for details about the attack.
As of late, attacks purportedly carried out by Fulani bandits were not uncommon in the area.
Bandits are said to have plundered Rabah and neighboring communities.
