FRSC Charges Road Users On Safe Driving

The FRSC’s Corps Marshal has urged everyone using the roads to be cautious when traveling in order to prevent crashes on the nation’s highways.

Muhammad made this known in his letter read at the news briefing of the flag-off of the 2024 Ember Months campaign organized by the FRSC on Tuesday in Akure.

The letter was read by Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, FRSC Ondo State Sector Commander, in commemoration of the campaign with the theme “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Crashes Kill More Passengers Than Drivers.”

The FRSC corps marshal said that it behoved drivers and passengers to collaborate with the corps to address road carnage.

Muhammed said that the corps had intensified its efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow, reduce road crashes, and create a safer motoring environment nationwide during the festive period and beyond.

The FRSC boss, who said that he had directed the immediate commencement of a mega public enlightenment campaign in all states, said that the enforcement had been placed on red alert.

“Overloading, speeding, and some other vices that are against the rules and regulations of the roads are the ones causing road traffic crashes.

“It is not the end-of-the-year months that cause road crashes but the attitude of road users on the road.

“So, it is the right of the driver to move the passenger from point A to point B, for businesses and many other good places.

“But not to move the passenger to mortuaries or hospitals as a result of crashes.

“This strategy arose from the need to engage passengers and encourage them to assert their rights, thereby curbing drivers’ excesses.

“Because it is on record that more passengers are killed in road traffic crashes than drivers. Hence, the need to take up the responsibility of being more vigilant while in transit,” he said.

“Motorists are expected to take full responsibility for their actions and inactions on the road by maintaining their vehicles, obeying traffic laws, and other road regulations.

“We must take proactive steps to provide hope, not fear, when using our roads, as the consequences of our actions or inactions will be severe if we fail to address these challenges,” he said. (NAN)
