Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah has commiserated with the family of late Dr Ogbonnaya Onu first civilian governor of Abia State and former Minister of Technology and Innovation.

Dr Onu died after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja on Thursday.

Recall that the late 72-year-old former minister contested for the presidential flag of the All Progressive Congress (APC) during the 2023 general election, but lost to President Bola Tinubu.

Ogah was a Minister in ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet from 2019-2022, the same period Onu was also a Minister. Both quit the federal cabinet to pursue their political ambitions.

He described Onu as a committed servant of the people who left a footprint of excellence and integrity in the quest for accelerated development in the country’s technology sector.

According to him, he witnessed firsthand Onu’s passion to record a milestone in his ministry while in office.

He also lauded the former Abia governor for championing the course of Ndigbo, a quest for which he sought the country’s presidency after he resigned from the federal cabinet.

While commiserating with his family, Ogah urged them to take solace in the fact that the late Onu left an indelible footprint in the sands of time at various capacities he has served.

Dr Ogah said; “Good Night a true son of the soil.

“Despite how much I refused to accept the sad news, the confirmation keeps coming.

“Chief Sir Ogbonnaya Onu, you are a rarebred, a disciplinarian, integrity personified, and public figure of note.

“May God accept your soul patriotic Nigerian and true son of the soil.”, He siad
