Hon. Uche Nwankpa, a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, representing Obingwa West (Uhie) State Constituency, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
In a letter addressed to the PDP leadership, Nwankpa stated that he has served the party faithfully and contributed to its growth at all levels, but has decided to leave due to the party’s recent direction, which is at variance with his personal beliefs. He expressed his gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities he had to serve, but noted that the party is no longer able to carry out internal reforms or offer effective opposition.
Nwankpa, who was a member of the Abia State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2015, tendered his official resignation from the party at the ward, local government, and state levels. He stated that his decision to leave was difficult, but he remains committed to supporting democracy and good governance in the state.
The letter was copied to the Ward 6 Chairman, Obingwa L.G.A PDP, the Obingwa L.G.A Chairman PDP, and the State Chairman PDP, Abia State.
