Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of President Bola Tinubu, unveiled the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) on Friday, a pet project she claims will benefit Nigerian women, youths, and children.
The initiative was officially launched at the State House in Abuja.
It continues the history of Nigerian first ladies establishing women-focused pet projects once their husbands take government. During her husband’s administration, immediate past first lady Aisha Buhari spearheaded the Future Assured programme.
She stated to reporters shortly after her first meeting with members of the initiative’s governing board that satisfying the requirements of the target group will bring them closer to the government.
She stated that the effort would prioritize agriculture, education, economic empowerment, health, and social investment.
“Beneficiaries will register with the Corporate Affairs Commission and open a bank account to qualify to be considered.
”We hope to take off with unspent funds from the 2023 campaign purse after which we shall solicit funds from private organizations, international donors, and Non-Governmental Organisations.
“The programme will enable us to assist the vulnerable groups; we shall try to see what we can do to naturally meet their needs.
“We shall have zonal meetings which will involve the wives of state governors,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu, the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, and Salamatu Gbajabiamila, the wife of the Chief of Staff, are among the initiative’s governing board members.
Others include the wife of the Senate President, Ekaette Akpabio, and Dr. Betta Edu, the APC National Women Leader.
