Rapid FM 96.5MHz, Umuahia which prides itself as the first 24-hour radio station in Abia State on Thursday, September 1, 2022 commenced broadcasting operations to the delight of citizens of the state.
According to a statement on behalf of Rapid Broadcasting Network Limited, owners of Rapid Radio and Television, by the Head of Stations, Mr. John Nkamiang, “Rapid FM is a realization of a long-held desire to bring unceasing entertainment to the people of Abia state and adjoining localities through top range content delivery backed by world class technology, and thorough professional anchors.”
Mr Nkamiang said, Rapid FM, based in Umuahia, will be dominant on lifestyle, culture, entertainment, sports, news, and current affairs, and will intensely appeal to all layers of society as the brand seeks to immerse its appeal among the youth, women, adults, and diverse income classes.
He added: “We aim to be among leading trusted sources of lifestyle news, cultural exposition, and entertainment on Africa and its people, as we will connedt with the African diaspora via our active online assets”.
The statement further indicated that the Rapid FM will adopt a language mix of English, Igbo and Pidgin English, purposed for pacy urban entertainment, creative news delivery and the furtherance of entrepreneurship, liberal democracy, civic rights, and the protection of the vulnerable in society.
“Also, as a statement of intent to be a leading multi-media brand in the south-east, the new radio station has engaged an amazing pool of young talents with a backbone of marque and experienced broadcasters imbued with vast institutional memory, that will set standards in radio town-hall interactive experiences, live on-site reporting and event coverage, compelling interviews, and personality profiles,” it added.
