A fire outbreak has destroyed property worth millions of naira at an industrial facility in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited, located in the Olopomeji area of Ibadan, according to investigations by our correspondent.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire broke out in the recycling section of the facility, which contained a large number of disused tyres. The flames reportedly consumed a significant portion of the section, resulting in massive property damage.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said the fire was reported to the agency at around 7:07 a.m. on Sunday.
He said, “The fire incident was a result of the explosion of a running machine, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze.
“The fire affected the recycling section and disused tyres, while the fire service was able to save other sections of the company from the devastating fire.”
Efforts by firefighters reportedly prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the industrial facility. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the explosion and the full extent of the damage.
