Joe Igbokwe, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has requested President Bola Tinubu to investigate why Nigeria’s refineries are not operating.
Igbokwe questioned what had become of Nigeria’s four dormant refineries.
He was responding to a comment made by Nigerian Finance Minister Wale Edun, who stated that the country spends $600 million each month on petroleum imports.
Edun stated that Nigeria spends $600 million per month on petroleum imports due to the high expense of supplying neighboring nations, which extends to Central Africa.
The minister said that the circumstance was a major reason in President Bola Tinubu’s decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy since the government lacked reliable statistics on domestic fuel usage.
Igbokwe wrote on his Facebook page: “Finance Minister says Nigeria spends $600m monthly on importation of PMS. Please, what happened to our 4 refineries?
“If this is a jinx, we have to break it. PBAT should find out why our refineries are not working for years now. We need to know.”
