All is set for the final journey of Mrs. Nsomma Gladys Ubani (1935–2025), revered matriarch of the Ubani family and a respected community figure, who will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Umuosoko–Awomukwu, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.

In a moving tribute titled “Life and Times of Mrs. Nsomma Gladys Ubani (1935–2025)”, journalist and public affairs analyst Mr. Sam Ogbonna chronicles the life of a woman widely remembered as a devoted mother, loving wife, faithful Christian, and woman of purpose whose virtues of honesty, hard work, and service to family and community will endure.

Born in 1935 to Mr. Ngwankwe and Mrs. Adaocha Mbah of the Umuru family in Ekebedi, Ikwuano LGA, Mrs. Ubani, fondly called Nsomma was raised in a close-knit home that prized simplicity, integrity, and diligence. From her youth, she was known for kindness, modesty, and empathy qualities that shaped her life and relationships.

She married Mr. Egbedubi Ubani Nwokocha of the Ndiako family in Umuosoko–Awomukwu, a visionary who had returned from Fernando Pó (Equatorial Guinea). The couple later settled in Lagos, where they were blessed with two children—Glory and Monday Onyekachi who brought them immense joy.

During the Nigerian Civil War, the family made difficult sacrifices for safety, sending the children back East while Mrs. Ubani remained steadfast. After the war, she stayed in the village to raise her children, instilling strong values and prioritizing education despite challenges, before the family reunited in Lagos.

Though health challenges prevented further childbirth after her third pregnancy, Mrs. Ubani accepted her circumstances with grace, finding fulfillment in being a supportive wife and devoted mother. Deeply spiritual, she embraced the Christian faith and was a committed member of the Assemblies of God, Nigeria, and the Apostolic Church of Nigeria, living a life marked by humility, prayer, and service.

Her legacy lives on through her only surviving son, , SAN, a renowned public interest lawyer known for principled advocacy and significant contributions to the legal profession in Nigeria and beyond. Her daughter, Glory, predeceased her over a decade ago, leaving behind five grandchildren who are now grown and thriving.

Though Mrs. Ubani had few children, she was richly blessed with grandchildren, including four from Dr. Ubani—Obinna, Chidindu, Chinwe, and Ebube—whom she loved dearly and continually prayed for. She is also survived by grandchildren Ngozi, Uche, Oluchi, Amaka, and Rosemary, as well as great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives.

Mrs. Nsomma Gladys Ubani passed on in February 2025 at the age of 90, joining her beloved husband, who died three years earlier at the remarkable age of 101, both under the same roof of their son. As family, friends, church members, and the wider community gather to pay their last respects, many take solace in the enduring influence of a life well lived.

To the Ndiako family, Umuosoko women, Awomukwu community, and the body of Christ, her passing leaves a void, yet her memory remains a beacon—proof that while bodies may be buried, legacies endure.
