FG Vows To Promote Technology In Education, Cautions Against Quackery

The federal government has reiterated its dedication to leveraging information technology (IT) to transform education across Nigeria.

Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, made this known during the 2025 Information Technology Professionals’ Assembly, held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja. Speaking on Wednesday through Olie Frank, a Deputy Director of Science Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Alausa emphasized the government’s recognition of IT as a vital tool in expanding educational access in the 21st century.

The annual event, hosted by the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), brought together key stakeholders—including policymakers, lawmakers, academics, industry leaders, civil society, and government officials—to deliberate on pressing issues in the IT sector.

Highlighting the importance of IT, Alausa described it as a cornerstone of modern professions and a driving force for national development. He underscored the government’s serious approach to IT as part of its broader development goals.

However, the minister also expressed concern over the rise of unqualified practitioners in the field. He urged the CPN to intensify enforcement of its regulatory mandate by ensuring that all individuals and organizations involved in IT are properly registered.

“The Federal Ministry of Education acknowledges your efforts in implementing the CPN Act, which mandates registration for all IT practitioners in Nigeria,” Alausa stated.

“Globally, professional regulation is essential to eliminate quackery and uphold standards within the industry.”

In his remarks, CPN President and Council Chairman Kole Jagun noted that the IT Professionals’ Assembly has become a vital platform for discussions among Nigerian and diaspora IT professionals. He emphasized that the 19th edition of the Assembly aims to address cybersecurity, cybercrime, misinformation, and hate speech while also promoting local tech innovation and international collaboration.

“This gathering is more than just a conference—it’s a hub for connection, collaboration, and inspiration,” Jagun said. “As technology rapidly evolves, staying ahead requires constant learning, knowledge exchange, and professional networking.”
