The Nigerian Federal Government has approved a $1.7 billion budget for the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity—Governance (HOPE—GOVERNANCE) project, alongside the linked Primary Health Care Provision Strengthening (HOPE—PHC) initiative.
The announcement was made during a recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The HOPE-PHC project is focused on improving access to quality healthcare services and strengthening the country’s health system’s resilience. Meanwhile, the governance reforms within the Hope-Governance project will enhance healthcare financing, promote transparency and accountability, and improve the recruitment, deployment, and performance management of primary healthcare workers at the federal, state, and local government levels.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will lead the HOPE-PHC project, while the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning will oversee the HOPE-GOVERNANCE initiative.
