FG Partners CIPM To Professionalise HR In Civil Service
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, has launched a reform initiative aimed at professionalising Human Resource Management in the Federal Civil Service.
In a statement on Tuesday, the initiative — unveiled at a sensitisation workshop held at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in Abuja — seeks to reposition HR as a specialised and professional function within the public sector.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, said the reform, known as the HR Initiative, is designed to align the civil service with global best practices. She described human resource management as “the nervous system of any effective organisation” and noted that progression into directorate-level roles would now require professional HR certification.
She explained that the reform would introduce a national HR competency framework, accreditation by CIPM and international partners, and a transition plan requiring officers in HR roles to commence certification within 12 months. By January 2026, preference in HR postings will be given to certified or actively certifying professionals.
