FG Moves To Restructure NYSC

The Minister of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, has hinted that the federal government would review, restructure and reform the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to meet the demand of the future.

Speaking Monday in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the maiden meeting of NYSC management with Heads of Corps Producing Institutions in Nigeria, she announced that the team that would undertake the review and restructure reforms would be inaugurated soon.

According to her, the first part of the reforms would be centered on reviewing participants with an entrepreneurship mindset and making skills development a core of the programme.

She said the scheme was doing that already but the objective was to work with them to strengthen it.

Bio-Ibrahim announced that over 5000 corps members would have their entrepreneurial ventures funded with up to N10 million.

On his part, director general of the scheme, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, said the decision to initiate a direct interface with vice chancellors, rectors and provosts came as a result of the desire to elicit more decisive actions regarding the roles of their institutions in the mobilisation process.
