The Federal Government launched $56 million worth of SCADA equipment in Abuja yesterday,to expressing concern over the power sector crises.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adekola Adelabu said that the SCADA system would help monitor the entire electricity network from a centralised location.
The minister, who represented by Emmanuel Nosike, said that the SCADA would ensure a quick response to outages, manage loads efficiently and optimise the overall performance of power systems.

“With features such as automated data collection, fault detection and remote-controlled operations, we are laying the groundwork for a more resilient and responsive power sector.
“This initiative aligns seamlessly with our broader vision of achieving energy security and expanding access to electricity for all Nigerians, which is the primary objective of the Nigerian Electricity Transmission Access Project (NETAP). The introduction of SCADA is part of our strategic efforts to modernise our power infrastructure and implement smart grid technologies. As we strive to provide reliable electricity, we are also creating an environment conducive to private sector investment, innovation and development in the energy market,” he said.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz appreciated the World Bank for its financial support.
“The World Bank has also played a significant role by organising bi-weekly meetings to monitor the project’s progress and appointing a consultant—an expert in SCADA and telecommunications with over 30 years of experience—who has continuously offered professional advice and guidance” he said
Abdulaziz also acknowledged the efforts of the implementing contractor, Messrs NR Electric/NARI TECH of China, who deployed multiple subcontractors and teams to meet the very tight 24-month deadline set for the project’s completion.
“Furthermore, the owner’s engineer, CES! S p.A. of Italy—a world-leading technical consulting and engineering company in the field of technology and innovation for the electric power sector—has performed excellently, ensuring that the contractor’s performance adhered strictly to international standards and best practices. The headquarters, regional management. and other operational staff have also made significant contributions by working extended hours and through weekends to ensure steady progress towards completion.
