The federal government has officially established 16 years as the minimum age requirement for admission into all tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the announcement on Tuesday during the 2025 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) held in Abuja.
Declaring the meeting open, Alausa stressed that the age limit is now a formal and non-negotiable policy. He also warned that any admission processed outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) would be deemed illegal.
“Any institution that admits candidates outside the official CAPS platform will be held accountable,” the minister said, adding that heads of institutions found guilty of admission fraud or bypassing CAPS will face prosecution under the law.
The annual JAMB policy meeting outlines the framework and regulations for admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the upcoming academic session.
