Family Of Ex-Soldier Allegedly Killed On Duty Seeks Justice

The family of Christopher Ogbodo, a 63-year-old former soldier allegedly murdered while working as a night security guard, has called on the Nigeria Police to expedite efforts to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for his death.

Ogbodo, a native of Ikem in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly killed at a petroleum station under construction along the Nsukka-Ugwogo Nike Road, where he was employed.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu, his widow, Mrs. Ngozi Ogbodo, described the killing as a “cold-blooded murder” and expressed frustration over what she perceives as slow progress in the police investigation.

“My husband spoke with me on the phone the day he was killed. Since then, the police have yet to unravel the mystery surrounding his death,” she lamented.

Mrs. Ogbodo also criticized the management of the petroleum station, saying neither the owner nor the station manager has reached out to the family or cooperated fully with investigators.

“The station manager, who is likely to have crucial information, has not come forward. Even the owner has not identified with the family or been questioned, which raises serious concerns,” she added.

While stopping short of accusing the police of negligence, she urged authorities to thoroughly investigate everyone connected to the station.

“Since July 1, 2025, when my husband was murdered, those responsible are still at large. The police must treat this case with urgency. A human life was lost, and this cannot be swept under the carpet,” she said tearfully.

Mrs. Ogbodo also appealed for the release of her husband’s body to allow for burial while emphasizing the need for justice.

“Even domestic animals have owners. My husband was a human being—a father and breadwinner. His killers must be held accountable,” she stressed.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful, as enquiries sent to the police spokesperson remained unanswered at the time of reporting.
