Adeleye Falade has officially assumed office as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), following the appointment of his predecessor, Philip Mshelbila, as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Falade resumed duties on Wednesday at NLNG’s Corporate Head Office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
His appointment was confirmed in a statement signed by the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall.
Before taking on the top role at NLNG, Falade served as Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, a position he assumed in April 2024. There, he led one of the world’s established LNG producers and oversaw strategic operational performance within Brunei’s gas sector.
He brings nearly 30 years of experience in the global oil and gas industry, with extensive leadership exposure across the LNG and petroleum value chain. His career within the Shell Group spans upstream and midstream operations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa.
Falade’s expertise includes gas and petroleum operations, production optimisation, engineering, operational excellence, business improvement, and change management. He has also held senior technical and leadership roles in multinational environments, managing complex joint ventures and diverse teams.
In 2023, he served as Country Chair for Shell Namibia, where he led strategic operations and stakeholder engagement.
Earlier in his career, Falade worked within NLNG, serving as General Manager, Production from May 2019 to September 2023, where he oversaw production reliability, plant performance, and operational safety at the Bonny Island facilities. He was also Operations Manager between 2015 and 2018.
He later moved to Shell’s headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands, where he served as Regional Asset Management System Implementation Manager from 2018 to 2019, focusing on improving operational efficiency across global assets.
Falade holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan and an MBA from Henley Business School, University of Reading, United Kingdom.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), a registered member of COREN, and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
His appointment comes at a critical time for NLNG, as the company strengthens gas supply through new long-term agreements with six third-party suppliers. This aligns with progress on the Train 7 expansion project, which is expected to significantly boost production capacity and reinforce Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market.
Falade now leads a fully Nigerian management team, reflecting NLNG’s continued emphasis on developing indigenous leadership and strengthening local expertise within the organisation.
