The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has elected Hon. Chijioke Chukwu as its new State Chairman following the successful conduct of the party’s state congress.
Chukwu, a former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, emerged through a consensus arrangement adopted by party leaders during the congress, which also produced other members of the state executive committee.
Other officials elected at the congress include Chidi Avoaja as State Secretary, Uche Aguoru as Publicity Secretary, while the immediate past Publicity Secretary, Benedict Godson, was elected Assistant Secretary, alongside other executive members.
Speaking at the congress, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, described the exercise as peaceful and a demonstration of unity within the party.
Kalu noted that the consensus arrangement adopted by the party leadership helped to promote inclusiveness and stability in the APC, adding that the successful congress has positioned the party for greater political strength in the state.
According to him, the new leadership of the party would play a crucial role in rebuilding and strengthening the APC structure across Abia ahead of future elections.
Also speaking, the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Donatus Nwamkpa, commended party leaders in the state, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, for their roles in ensuring the successful conduct of the congress.
Nwamkpa expressed confidence that the newly elected executive would reposition the party and prepare it for electoral success in the state.
Similarly, the Chairman of the National Committee for the Abia Congress, Emmanuel Go’ar, praised the Local Organising Committee led by Chief Marc Wabara for effectively coordinating the exercise.
In his acceptance speech, the new State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the executive.
He pledged to lead the party with humility and dedication while working to strengthen the APC across all wards and local government areas in the state.
Chukwu also expressed optimism that with unity and commitment among party members, the APC would make significant political gains in Abia State in future elections.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security personnel were present to monitor the congress.
