Former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), David Shikfu Parradang, has been killed by kidnappers in Abuja.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Parradang was abducted in the Area 1 axis of the Federal Capital Territory in the early hours of Tuesday.
Makama disclosed that the assailants trailed the former Immigration chief from a bank, where he had withdrawn money. After robbing him of the cash, they eventually took his life.
“The tragic incident has raised fresh concerns over security in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly regarding the increasing cases of kidnappings and targeted attacks,” Makama stated in a post.
Parradang served in the Nigerian Immigration Service for over 30 years, holding various positions in Kano, Lagos, Kwara, Enugu, and Abuja before becoming the Comptroller-General. He was a distinguished graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and was honored with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
Security agencies have reportedly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his abduction and murder, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Nigerian Immigration Service has yet to make an official statement, but an official at the Immigration headquarters in Abuja confirmed the incident.
“The report is true, but we need to wait for Immigration authorities to make an official publication,” the source said.
The tragic development has sparked renewed calls for enhanced security measures in the Federal Capital Territory to curb the growing menace of kidnappings and violent crimes.
