Ibrahim Kashim, the former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, has officially resigned from the party, effective July 21, 2025.
In a resignation letter obtained by Vanguard on Monday, Kashim thanked the PDP leadership for the trust placed in him and for offering him the party’s governorship ticket in 2023.
He had previously withdrawn from the race to support Governor Bala Mohammed, campaigning alongside him across Bauchi Local Government Area, despite the usual hurdles facing second-term contenders.
Kashim wrote, “After careful reflection, I hereby formally resign my membership of the PDP. I intend to seek new avenues to serve our people with the same dedication, integrity, and fear of Allah (SWT).”
He had earlier stepped down as Secretary to the State Government in January 2025, reportedly following directives from Governor Mohammed. While he has not publicly disclosed his next political move, there is growing speculation that Kashim may be eyeing the 2027 governorship election under a different political banner.
