Enugu State Govt Account Was Never Hacked – Police Confirms

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked reports alleging that the Enugu State Government’s official account was hacked, resulting in the loss of N1.09 billion.

In an official statement issued on January 9, 2025, the Force described the claims as false and misleading.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, investigations by the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC) confirmed that the incident in question was a case of procurement fraud rather than a cyber breach. He disclosed that a suspect connected to the fraud had been apprehended, and the stolen funds were fully recovered.

The police assured the public that the Enugu State Government, in collaboration with the NCCC, has implemented robust security measures to protect its financial systems from similar threats. Ministries, departments, agencies, and corporate entities have also reinforced their defenses against cyber and financial crimes.

ACP Adejobi urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely on credible sources when consuming or sharing news.

The statement concluded by reiterating the Force’s dedication to combating all forms of financial crimes while fostering public confidence in its investigative processes.
