The Police in Enugu State have arraigned a 42-year-old man, Edwin Eze, before a magistrate’s court for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Mburubu, Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Eze was brought before Magistrate Chijioke Idu of the Enugu East Magistrate Court on Monday on a one-count charge marked CMG/69c/2026, filed by the Commissioner of Police.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor in November 2025 at Amanato Mburubu Community without her consent—an act contrary to Section 3(1)(a) and punishable under Section 4(1)(a) of the Enugu State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law No. 2 of 2019.
Following his arraignment, Magistrate Idu ordered that the accused be remanded in the Enugu Correctional Facility and adjourned the case to February 12, 2026, for further hearing.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and women from all forms of abuse.
The Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, condemned the incident, emphasizing that the Governor Peter Mbah administration maintains zero tolerance for child molestation, sexual abuse, and gender-based violence.
“This is yet another case that demonstrates our resolve to bring every offender to justice. No abuser in Enugu State will go unpunished,” Enih vowed.
