An entertainment consultant, Chiedozie Dike Popularly known as Doodoo has called on the governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to end the orgy of police extortion in the state, saying citizens are tired.
In a social media post, he listed checkpoints in Umuahia to be the most affected.
According to Dike, Finbars by Bende road, Mopol base, and Rixos hotel junction are the flashpoint for police extortion.
He wrote, “ATTENTION GOV IKPEAZU; All the police checkpoints in Umuahia is now a point of extortion and oppression.
“Starting from Finbars by bende road, Mopol base and Rixos hotel junction. It is wrong and dehumanizing. Pls kindly use your good office and come to the rescue of Abians. We are tired.”
Reacting to the allegation, the Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Janet Agbede when contacted by ABN TV said there is no checkpoint in the state.
She said any policeman mounting checkpoint is doing that on his own.
She challenged Doodoo to point out where the alleged extortion took place.
While maintaining that there is no pedal point in the city centre, the CP insisted that only patrol teams who go in convoy are found around the streets.
