Engr. Ndukwe Iko Emerges New Eze-Elect Of Okon Aku Ohafia (Photos, Video)

The people of Okon Aku Ohafia in Ohafia local government area of Abia have elected Engr. Ndukwe Iko as their incoming paramount ruler, Nnaka IV of Okon Aku.

He was elected on Friday by consensus after three contestants stepped down from the race and directed their supporters to vote for him.

ABN TV gathered that out of 68 persons that make up the electoral college, 67 voted for him while one vote was voided.

The state ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs had directed a rerun following a dispute from an earlier election which incidentally was won by Engr. Iko.

He expressed gratitude to the people of the community for reaffirming their decision to choose him as their traditional ruler.

He thanked the state government for ensuring free and fair process and the state governor, Dr. Alex Otti for making sure that every part of Abia experiences good governance.

He also assured that the community will witness so many good news in coming days.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu expressed delight over the smooth process, noting that the people won.

While thanking the people and the mayor of Ohafia, David Bourdex for the hospitality accorded the delegation of the state government, he said the decision to reconduct the election follows a consensus by all interested parties.

According to him, the state government is not responsible for choosing traditional rulers for communities but only come in to ensure they are properly guided in line with the provisions of the law.

Mayor of Ohafia, David Bourdex in his response said the emergence of Engr. Iko is a collective victory for the people of Okon Aku Ohafia.

The Member Representing Ohafia South State Constituency at Abia House Of Assembly, Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke (Etiokwe) was in attendance at the election, charged the new Nnaka IV to uphold unity and peace to the community, adding that his victory is for all and sundry, he went further to advise the good people of Okon Aku to give maximum support to their new Nnaka.
