#EndSARS: No Jailbreak In Ikoyi, Fire Contained – Officials

The fire that broke out in a part of the Ikoyi Correctional Centre has been controlled, the service has said.

It also dismissed fears there was a jailbreak in the facility, insisting that the fire only affected a part of the centre and did not involve inmates.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Lagos, Rotimi Oladokun said there was no cause for alarm, adding that a statement would be issued soon.

He said: “There was fire on a part of the correctional centre but it has been contained. It did not affect the inmates in any way. There is no jailbreak and all is fine. We will issue a statement soon.”

Earlier, Ikoyi residents have raised alarm following billowing smoke and gunshots heard from that axis.

It was gathered that as soon as the fire started, armed detachments of police operatives from Area A Command and Police Mobile Force (PMF) 2, Keffi Street were deployed to safeguard the place.

Confirming the incident to ABN TV, Police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said: “Yes, there is fire outbreak there but we are investigating and our men are on the ground with firefighters.

“Area Commander, Area A and Commander MOPOL 2 Keffi road VI and men are there. No cause for alarm.”

Adejobi also said the crisis that broke out around Fagba on Tuesday following the burning of two trucks used in conveying livestock has been brought under control and peace meetings being held between warring factions.
