#EndSARS: Minimum Requirement Into Nigerian Police Should Be B.Sc, HND, Equivalent — Security Expert

A renowned security expert and Interpol Systems Consultant, Sir Chikwe Udensi has advocated and increase in minimum education requirement into Nigerian Police Force.

This is even as he lamented the dwindling quality of education in the country, describing the tertiary institutions as glorified secondary schools.

In a chat with ABN TV at the weekend, Sir Udensi said the current system where First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) is the minimum requirement for recruitment as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) is not in the best interest of the country, saying first degree (B.Sc) High National Diploma, HND or it’s equivalent more appropriate as an NCO.

“It is important to raise the bar where it ought to be. That is why an average constable can’t speak good English. It must be pidgin English. He has no education” he said.

According to Udensi, the porosity of Nigerian borders makes it prone to influx of illegal weapons.

He revealed that a recent investigation by Interpol showed that Libya is the source of majority of illegal arms flocking into the country through land borders.

He further stated that when Libya failed, their armoury was looted, comprising about 150 million weapons found their way through Niger and eventually Nigeria.

The APGA stalwart also called for repealing of the firearm Act to control importation of light weapons.
