Emeka Anyaoku, Emefiele, Terry Waya Among National Honours Recipients

The federal government has nominated 339 individuals to receive national honors.

On Sunday, the federal government unveiled the beneficiaries of the 2023 national honors.

Former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku is the lone nominee for Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, and Bisi Akande, former governor of Osun State, are among those nominated for the title of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).

Others include Herbert Wigwe, group chief executive officer of Access Holdings; late Mohammed Barkindo, former secretary-general of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); and Chima Nweze, a supreme court judge.

Terry Waya, a Nigerian businessman; Wale Edun, an economist and member of the presidential transition committee (PTC); and Awele Elumelu, co-founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and chairperson of Avon Medical Practice Limited, were among those named as Officers of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President-elect Bola Tinubu; Owen Omogiafo, president of Transcorp Group; and Sharon Ikeazor, minister of state for Niger Delta Affairs are among the other important women who will get national honors.
