A Labour Party governorship aspirant in Edo, Prince Egbe Humphrey Omorodion says he is in the race to govern the South-South State in order to restore what he called the lost glory of the state.
According to Prince Omorodion, an accountant and medical practitioner, the state despite its rich human and material resources is not where it ought to be, saying he seeks the number one office in Edo to offer solutions that will enhance the livelihood of the people.
Speaking with journalists on Saturday, Prince Omorodion who is the Chairman Labour Party UK said he feels touched each time he travels home and discover that several things are left undone despite government presence.
“I spent many years in civil service. I was in charge of budget and budgetary control for Leed City Council, the second largest government organisation in the United Kingdom.

“One of my cardinal roles was creating jobs for young people. And I noticed that one of the problems we have in our hands in Edo is that we are not using one of our most exclusive resources which is manpower to create energy.
“I can help in that area and I have a blueprint that I can use to bring a lot of differences that will really affect our people for good. In 18 months, Edo State will be a different place entirely”, he noted.
While expressing concern that the tourism sector in Edo as well as the culture of the people is on a rapid decline, he assured that if elected as the next governor of Edo, he would ensure a total turnaround in these areas.
He said the Moat of Benin and the Great Walls of Benin Kingdom were built by Benin people themselves who he said do great things, wondering why the peoples’ art and culture life is gradually taking a back seat.
“I come into politics to try and bring back the old glory of the Edo people”, Prince Omorodion vowed.
According to Prince Omorodion, through arts, culture and sports, Edo youths had in the past been gainfully engaged, memory of which he intends to revive if elected to succeed the incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP next year.
While assuring that the Edo economy would grow by five times if elected the governor in 2024, Prince Omorodion said his global exposure and outstanding managerial skills which he has acquired over the years, managing budget size three times larger than that of Edo, has prepared him for a fruitful service to the people of Edo State.
While urging the people of the state to reject any candidate who has not been involved in budgetary control and policy formulation, he said this would give room for inefficiency and corruption, insisting that under him, there would be zero tolerance for corruption.
Prince Omorodion along with the likes of former president of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, Chief Kenneth Imansuagbon and others are locking horns for the governorship ticket of Labour in Edo ahead of governorship election next year.
Edo is home state of the national chairman of LP, Julius Abure. It produced one of the three Senators in the state in the person of Sen. Neda Imasuen of Edo South in the last general election, leaving APC and PDP with Edo North and Central respectively.
Abure has repeatedly said Labour Party candidate would emerge the next governor of Edo, to contend with the incumbent PDP and APC which holds swear at the centre.
