The newly sworn-in Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru on Tuesday gave an ultimatum to freeze all government accounts domiciled in various banks.
Nwifuru made this known in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
The Governor ordered that the freezing of the said government accounts by the banks, is with immediate effect, from today, Tuesday 30th, May 2023.
The statement reads in part: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has directed for the immediate freezing of all State government accounts domiciled in various banks with effect from Tuesday, 30th May 2023.”
Nwifuru further ordered bank managers operating government accounts to immediately comply with the directive.
“Consequently, the Governor directs the Bank managers of all the banks that operate government accounts to immediately comply by ensuring that no payment is made from any government accounts till further notice,” he stated.
