Ebem Ohafia Community Mourns Renowned Evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai

The people of Ebem Ohafia Ancient Kingdom have joined millions of Christians around the world to mourn the passing of one of Africa’s foremost evangelists and illustrious sons of Ohafia, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, on behalf of the Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ohafia, HRH Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha (JP), and the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders, the community described the late preacher as “a spiritual giant whose life defined faith, humility, and service to humanity.”

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was globally known for his fiery evangelism, prophetic teaching, and miraculous demonstrations of faith that spanned over six decades.

Born in Asaga Ohafia, he rose to become one of Nigeria’s most celebrated men of God, leading crusades across nations and mentoring countless ministers. His ministry touched millions, while his humanitarian works and gospel outreach made him a symbol of compassion and leadership in the Christian faith.

“Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was a true servant of God and a pride to Ohafia land. His dedication to the gospel and his selfless service to humanity will never be forgotten. We celebrate his life and thank God for the gift he was to our people,” — Ifeanyi Okali, Publicity Secretary, EODU.

The Ebem Ohafia community extended heartfelt condolences to the Ukpai family, the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, and the entire Christian community in Nigeria and beyond.

While funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family, tributes have continued to pour in from across the nation, celebrating his enduring legacy of faith and transformation.

“Though we mourn his passing, we rejoice in knowing that he has finished his race and rests in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement added.
