The Mayor of Ikwuano local government area of Abia State, Hon. Osinachi Nwaka has rescued accident victims along Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road while on his way to Easter church service on Sunday.
The accident at Amawom community involved the collison of a Toyota hiace bus heading to Akwa Ibom and a tricycle popularly called keke NAPEP which was conveying four members of one family.
He told ABN TV at FMC Umuahia where the victims were rushed to that upon arrival at the scene, it was a gory site to behold as all 4 passengers in the keke sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He also rescued the hiace bus driver alleged to have caused the accident from an angry youths. He was said to have veered off his lane to hit the keke.
One of the female occupants of the keke was said to have been seriously injured as she was brought to the hospital unconscious and later resuscitated.
Mr. Nkemakolam Okiyi whose family members was in the keke expressed gratitude to the Mayor for his kindness, having left all he was doing to take accident victims to the hospital.
He prayed for God’s blessings upon him and his family.
Mayor Nwaka also promised to foot the medical bills of all the accident victims.
While commending the contractor handling the road project, Heartland Construction for the great job done so far, he urged that they should expedite action to ensure its completion in order to reduce the rate of accident along the road.
