The Department of State Services (DSS) has redeployed its Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya.
Afunanya replaced Marilyn Ogar as the DSS spokesperson in 2015 after her removal.
Disclosing his redeployment during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Afunanya, however, didn’t state his new assignment.
“Beginnings also end. It’s goodbye. It’s a good night and yet a good morning. I remain a Nigerian with love, loyalty, honour and glory. So help me God, “Afunanya said in his message to journalists.
He expressed gratitude for the chance to serve as the spokesperson of the security agency over the past decade.
His redeployment is coming one week after the new Director General, Adeola Ajayi, assumed office.
During his assumption of office, Ajayi had pledged to refocus the service towards covertness and the likelihood of studied silence on certain matters.
According to a statement last week by Afunanya, Ajayi promised to work with relevant stakeholders to overcome the challenges confronting the country’s security environments.
He said, “Ajayi assured me he would work with relevant stakeholders with utmost commitment and a deep sense of responsibility to surmount challenges confronting Nigeria’s economic, political, and security environments. According to him, the objective is to achieve the peace and stability necessary for development.”
