Music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is scheduled to be sentenced in October following his conviction on prostitution-related charges, is reportedly seeking a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, according to one of his attorneys.
Nicole Westmoreland told CNN on Tuesday, “It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had discussions regarding a pardon.”
However, Trump has suggested he is unlikely to grant clemency to the 55-year-old artist. Speaking to Newsmax on Friday, Trump said, “I was very friendly with him. I got along with him great, and he seemed like a nice guy. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”
When asked if that meant he would be reluctant to issue a pardon, Trump replied, “I would say so, yeah.”
Last month, a New York jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, each carrying a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.
He was, however, acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges following a lengthy trial during which serious allegations were presented.
His sentencing is scheduled for October 3.
