Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has commissioned several development projects across Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, aimed at improving education, road infrastructure, and access to clean water.
Kalu, who represents one of the largest constituencies in Nigeria with 13 electoral wards, flagged off the commissioning exercise last Friday, covering Bende town, Itumbauzo, and Uzuakoli Wards.
Among the projects commissioned were blocks of classrooms, office spaces, roads, and a solar-powered industrial borehole. They include the reconstruction and construction of classroom blocks at various schools such as Okopedi Community Primary School, Etitiulo Primary School, Bende Secondary Grammar School, Central School Bende, and Community Primary School Bende.
In Uzuakoli Ward, Kalu commissioned a new 6-classroom block at Uzuakoli Boys Secondary School and renovated classrooms at LG Amamba/Agbozu Primary School.
Road projects commissioned include the 2km Ndiokorieukwu Road, 1km Bende Market-Amaogwu-Agbomiri Ring Road, and the 800m Okputong-Ndiekeugo Road in Bende Ward, as well as the 1km Okwu-Amuhie Road and 2km Ihemba Road in Uzuakoli Ward.
A solar-powered industrial borehole was also inaugurated at Amamba in Uzuakoli Ward.
Speaking at the events, Kalu thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the projects through federal funding. He said the initiatives would improve access to education and facilitate economic activities in the constituency.
“Education got me where I am today. That’s why I want the next generation to have a conducive learning environment,” he said, urging constituents to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration.
Residents of the benefiting communities expressed gratitude, describing the projects as a major boost to rural development in the area.
