ASABA — The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected internet fraudster for allegedly killing his friend during a heated dispute over a $1,000 online transaction in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying it occurred on January 21, 2026.
According to Edafe, the suspect, identified as Mr. Oghenegare, is currently being detained at the state command headquarters in Asaba, while the deceased, Mr. Courage, was his close associate and business partner in cybercrime activities.
“The two young men, who were involved in internet fraud, had a disagreement over a $1,000 transaction. The suspect confronted his friend, and during the altercation, struck him on the head, leading to his death,” Edafe explained.
The police spokesman decried the rising number of murder cases in the state, attributing them to drug abuse, uncontrolled anger, and minor disputes that escalate into deadly violence.
Meanwhile, in a video obtained by police investigators, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that the victim, whom he described as his childhood friend, had “logged him out” of the online transaction that sparked the fatal confrontation.
The Delta State Police Command has vowed to ensure that justice is served and reiterated its warning against youth involvement in internet fraud and violent behaviour.
