The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has applauded Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, and former Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, for their steadfast support and leadership, which continue to strengthen the party across the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Gusau, the APC Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Idris, said the duo’s motivation and consistent engagement with party loyalists have inspired a wave of defections from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Idris announced that Hon. Maharazu Faru, the PDP lawmaker representing Maradun II Constituency in the State House of Assembly, officially defected to the APC during a well-attended ceremony at the party’s Gusau Secretariat. Joining him were five PDP ward chairmen and hundreds of supporters.
Speaking at the event, Faru explained that his defection was driven by Governor Dauda Lawal’s failure to fulfil campaign promises, particularly on security and equitable governance. He accused the PDP administration of sidelining his constituency and favouring a select few within the party.
“The government has failed to recognise our efforts or deliver the expected change. Only a small cabal benefits while the majority suffer,” Faru lamented.
Other defectors, including Alhaji Salisu Dodo, a former PDP ex-officio in Maradun, declared the PDP “dead” in their constituency, predicting more defections in the coming weeks.
Receiving the new members, APC State Chairman Hon. Tukur Danfulani praised Matawalle and Yari for fostering unity and confidence within the party despite being in opposition in the state. He assured the newcomers of equal treatment and expressed optimism that the APC would reclaim power in 2027.
Prominent APC figures, including former state chairman Hon. Lawal M. Liman and ex-SSG Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, attended the event, underscoring the growing momentum behind the party’s resurgence in Zamfara.
