Deeper Life High School Wins ₦1M In 2nd Edition Of Enyimbapedia Mathematics Competition (Photos, Video)

The second edition of the Enyimbapedia Mathematics Competition ended on a high note as Deeper Life High School, Aba Campus, clinched the top prize, emerging as overall winner in a keenly contested academic showdown.

The competition, which held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the premises of Enyimba FM, Aba, Abia State, drew participation from top-performing private schools in the region. Divine International School secured second place, while Christ the King Cathedral Secondary School came in third.

Winners walked away with impressive cash rewards:

Deeper Life High School – ₦1 million

Divine International School – ₦500,000

Christ the King Cathedral Secondary School – ₦250,000

Speaking during the prize presentation, Mr. Moses Orji, Media Adviser to the Prince Paul Ikonne Foundation (organizers of the competition), said the initiative is part of the Foundation’s effort to support quality education in the state.

“This is part of our corporate social responsibility. Prince Paul Ikonne has always been passionate about improving education,” Orji said.

He emphasized the importance of mathematics, describing it as a “jealous lover” that punishes neglect. He also blamed distractions such as mobile phones for the dwindling performance in the subject and urged stakeholders to rekindle student interest in core academic disciplines.

Notably, public schools were absent from the competition. According to Mr. Orji, several were invited through letters and radio announcements, but failed to participate. He attributed the low turnout to challenges confronting public education, including poor teacher motivation, unpaid salaries, and delayed promotions.

“No teacher can give their best under these tough conditions,” he remarked, while calling on government at all levels to do more in terms of infrastructure and welfare. He added that the Foundation is open to partnering with government to uplift public schools.

Winners of the competition expressed their joy and gratitude. Wisdom Okoro and Promise Mba from Deeper Life High School attributed their victory to their teachers’ commitment, team effort, and personal discipline.

“I owe this success to our teachers, my partner, and my hard work,” said Wisdom, who aspires to study Electrical Engineering.

From Divine International School, Chijioke Emanuel and Chijioke Favour said they were proud of their performance despite narrowly missing the top prize. “My teachers are the real winners,” Emanuel said, promising to return stronger in future editions.

Okoroafor Ikechukwu of Christ the King Cathedral Secondary School noted that poor time management affected their performance. “The questions were fair. We just need to improve our speed,” he acknowledged.

The organizers revealed that this competition is only a stepping stone to more educational programs such as debates and Bible quizzes. They also pledged to extend support to out-of-school children and ensure broader inclusion in future editions.

As the Enyimbapedia Mathematics Competition gains momentum, there is renewed hope that with improved support from government and stakeholders, public schools will also take their place on the winners’ podium in years to come.
