Deaf And Dumb Couple Wed Amidst Jubilation In Delta

A 28-year-old deaf and dumb man and his lover who is also deaf and dumb tied the knot in Agbor area of Delta State last Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Boji Boji Owa amidst jubilation.

The bridegroom, Kennedy Azubuike who is a native of Umunede in Ika North East of the state and owns a laundry service exchanged marital vows with Tina Igberaese, a hairdresser who hails from Isan in Edo State.

The couple met in 2020 inside the church where the wedding took place.

After going through all processes of the church, they decided to tie the knot in the presence of a team of clerics, families of the couple, their ilk who came from Anambra, Edo, Oyo and Delta States and well-wishers.

Four of the groom’s colleagues from the Methodist Comprehensive School of Deaf and Dumb, Bodija, Ibadan and Federal Special College of Education Oyo, Oyo State were among the scores of deaf and dumb persons who graced the occasion.

Joining the couple in holy matrimony using sign language, the clergy, Pastor Kenneth Okoh, who came from Anambra to officiate, said the marriage was an act of God, admonishing them to keep the candlelight of love glowing.

Okoh said: “It was ordained that one should be a spiritual helpmate to the other in Christian faith, thus, upholding each other till the end of their pilgrimage here on earth.”

He said marriage was also ordained for the purpose of procreation of children and a remedy against sin to avoid fornication.

Pastor Okoh, who dwelt richly on Ecclesiastic 3:11 enjoined parents of the couple and well-wishers to give their support to make them succeed in a different world the lovebirds found themselves.

He reminded the newly-wedded that what God has joined together, no custom, tradition, culture, friends, parents, circumstances, either religion or other socio-physiological tendencies can put asunder.

Parents of the groom and bride were in high spirits throughout the wedding ceremony as they prayed for their children to succeed in the journey of life.

Mr James Azubuike, a farmer and founder of a Non-Governmental Organization, “Hope in God foundation” helping the physically challenged persons advised the young couple to put their total trust in God.

The couple beaming with a smile spoke in one voice, saying “we are happy doing the needful. God is there for us because we put our trust in Him.

“We appreciate everybody who contributed to the success of the wedding.”
