Dead Motorcyclist Discovered In Ogun

Olusola Adetayo, a commercial motorcyclist, was found dead near his home in Ogun State after he went to get some drugs for his ailing daughter.

PUNCH Metro gathered from the deceased wife, Mobolaji Adetayo, on Monday that the incident occurred on October 16.

The mother of three narrated that on the said day, her husband returned from work and one of their children was indisposed, which prompted her husband to get drugs for the sick child.

Mobolaji added that after about two hours, when her husband did not return home and efforts to reach him via his phone line were unsuccessful, she became concerned and decided to look for him.

Upon setting out to search for him, she added that she discovered his dead body a few meters from their home, lifeless, and his motorcycle, mobile phone, and a mini bag he had gone out with all missing.

Mobolaji narrated, “On October 16, he went out at about 8 pm to get drugs for one of our children who was having a stomach upset. After about an hour and a half, he did not return home. I called his line, but he was not picking, and at some point, the line was switched off.

“I told the children that we should go and check on their dad because it is unusual for him to stay late like that. We went out to search for him, and when we got to a junction close to our house, we found his battered body close to a nearby bush, and he was dead.

“We couldn’t find his bag, his mobile, and his motorcycle. When we saw him, his body was battered with bruises on his face and blood oozing out from his body.”

She urged police operatives to bring the suspected killers of her husband to justice while stressing that the recurring cases of motorcycle snatching and attacks by some unidentified assailants in the community have raised concerns.

“I want the authority to bring the killers of my husband to justice because he is the only one I have and he is the one taking care of the three children we have.

“I am scared to even stay at home because I don’t know if his assailants may come for me too.”

The state police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, was yet to respond to enquiries about the incident as of the time of filling out this report.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer in the area who was not authorized to speak with the media confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone conversation on Monday.

The officer disclosed that the family of the deceased insisted on burying his corpse against the request by the police to carry out necessary action before releasing the corpse to them.

“The incident happened close to Ogere. Police operatives visited the scene and requested to take the body for necessary action, but the family insisted that they want to bury the corpse,” the police source said.
